Hotels and resorts are fantastic. However, short-term rentals can offer unique experiences that these facilities often can’t. They provide an opportunity to live like a local and often feature truly distinctive accommodations. Here are a few unique short-term rentals we’ve discovered on our travels:

A Yurt in New Zealand

During our trip to New Zealand, we had the incredible opportunity to stay in a traditional Yurt right on the beautiful beach. Waking up to the sound of the waves gently crashing on the shore and being able to step outside and feel the soft sand between our toes was truly a remarkable experience. The Yurt itself was cozy and comfortable, providing us with all the necessary amenities while still maintaining a sense of simplicity and connection with nature.

A Historic Cottage In Ireland

During our trip to Ireland, we stayed in a charming and beautifully preserved historic cottage situated on a working farm. This is the most historic of the unique short-term rentals that we have stayed in since there are very few of these little cottages left standing in Ireland. This unique experience not only allowed us to immerse ourselves in the rich history of the region but also provided us with the chance to interact with adorable baby cows and even hold the cutest little chicks in our hands. It was a truly heartwarming and memorable experience that added an extra layer of joy and connection to our time in Ireland.

A Sheep Farm in Iceland

During our trip to Iceland, we had the amazing opportunity to stay with a local farm. It was an incredible experience as we not only got to observe, but also actively took part in the annual sorting of the sheep. This unique event occurs only once a year, making it even more special and memorable. We were able to witness firsthand the intricate process of organizing and separating the sheep back thier respective farms. It was truly a remarkable and enriching experience that allowed us to deeply connect with the rural traditions and way of life in Iceland.

A Rustic Cabin In Norway

In Norway, we had the incredible opportunity to stay in a quaint and cozy cabin nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by awe-inspiring natural beauty. The views from the cabin were absolutely breathtaking, with majestic mountains towering in the distance, and lush greenery as far as the eye could see adding to the overall charm and tranquility of the place. It was truly an unforgettable experience that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the stunning landscapes and connect with the captivating nature of Norway.
